- Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Cable Assembly No.1 on Scion tC?A:The first step to replace Parking Brake Cable Assembly No.1 requires both restraint systems precaution observation and negative battery terminal dismissal. The necessary components for this procedure include shift lever knob sub-assembly (manual transaxle), console panel sub-assembly UPR FR, console upper rear panel sub-assembly, console box assembly RR, parking brake lever sub-assembly, front door scuff plate RH, cowl side trim sub-assembly RH, front seat assembly RH and exhaust pipe assembly center. First, remove the two nuts from the parking brake cable heat insulator then disconnect the parking brake cable assembly No.1 from the equalizer prior to removing its two bolts. Reinstallation of the new parking brake cable assembly No.1 requires bolting it with 12.5 Nm (128 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque followed by reattaching the floor carpet before securing the assembly to the parking brake equalizer. You should first install the parking brake cable heat insulator with torques of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) then move on to installing the exhaust pipe assembly center and parking brake lever sub-assembly and front seat assembly RH and cowl side trim sub-assembly RH and front door scuff plate RH. Adjust the parking brake lever travel followed by reinstallation of console box assembly RR, console upper rear panel sub-assembly and console panel sub-assembly UPR FR and shift lever knob sub-assembly (manual transaxle) into place. After checking the SRS warning light reconnect the negative terminal of the battery and finish the inspection.
- Q: How to install the parking brake cable on Scion xB?A:The first step to install the parking brake cable includes using the 2 claw mechanisms to attach a new support clamp to the cable through its claws. You should place the parking brake cable inside the disc brake cylinder before locking the clip claws of the cable into position on the rear disc brake cylinder guide. After connecting the cable end to the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever, install the parking brake cable within the body, secure it with 5 bolts that require a torque of 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 in-lbf). Connect the cable clamp before you put in the rear floor side member cover. The next operations entail installing front No. 2 floor heat insulator using 3 nuts at 5.5 Nm torque (56 kgf-cm, 49 in-lbf) before using the same torque value for front No. 1 floor heat insulator. The center exhaust pipe comes after the front floor center brace installation. The parking brake end stopper gets installed through the engagement of the two claws onto the parking brake equalizer before adding the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly in the same manner. Secure the parking brake equalizer to the No. 2 and then to the No. 3 parking brake cable assemblies according to the same connection steps. The technician should install the parking brake lever sub-assembly followed by adjusting the parking brake lever travel before finally installing the console box mounting bracket with 5 bolts torqued to 27 Nm (275 kgf-cm, 20 ft-lbf). The installer should build the console box assembly while also putting in place the console box carpet followed by the upper console panel sub-assembly. Install the rear wheel while tightening it to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) before conducting an exhaust gas leak check.
