Toyota Oil Pump maintains bearings of the engine, cools pistons and makes the camshafts alive through continuous flow. Toyota has succeeded in lean manufacturing that cut waste, empowered fast solutions, and applied those savings to create cars that last, drive smoothly, and sip fuel, whether they are based on the versatile TNGA or pair motors and batteries in Hybrid Synergy Drive. Customers see actual cost-effectiveness in a badge that is bringing practical innovation rather than flashy promises, such that customers worldwide trust that their Toyota will start every morning, take on coarse pavements, and keep their total cost of driving low each year. Owners and dealers, the world over, are enjoying the result. Within any engine, the Oil Pump draws lubricant into the sump, pushing it through filters, and then forcing it under pressure into bearings, piston skirts and cam journals, to ensure that at idle, friction is minimal, heat is dissipated swiftly and that at full throttle, sludge does not accumulate. Toyota specifies that the gear or trochoid design applied maintains tight clearances, balanced rotors and definite pressure relief valves that ensure optimum flow at idle yet will not aerate at full throttle, which keeps the horsepower constant. When low pressure sensors alert, Toyota drivers are aware that an Oil Pump check beats before it ends up catastrophically with grinds of metal. The Oil Pump is crucial for maintaining engine health.

Toyota Oil Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove, inspect, and install the oil pump in 3.0L and 3.3L V6 engine on Toyota Highlander?
    A:
To remove the oil pan, timing belt, crankshaft sprocket, and crankshaft position sensor, place a jack under the engine and remove the powertrain mounts. Next, take out the oil pick-up tube, alternator with its bracket, and unbolt the air conditioning compressor without disconnecting the refrigerant lines. Remove the air conditioning compressor bracket, power steering pump adjusting bracket, and pry the pump away from the oil pump body. Detach the timing belt tensioner pulley using a 10 mm hex bit or Allen wrench, then remove the bolts to detach the oil pump from the engine, prying carefully if necessary. Remove the O-ring, oil pressure relief valve snap-ring, retainer, spring, and valve, then use a large Phillips screwdriver to take off the screws retaining the body cover to the rear of the oil pump. Lift off the cover and remove the pump rotors, scraping away any sealant and old gasket material from the pump body and engine block, and clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Clean all components with solvent and inspect for wear and damage, checking the oil pressure relief valve sliding surface and valve spring, replacing them as a set if damaged. Measure the clearance of the driven rotor-to-oil pump body, rotor side, and rotor tip with a feeler gauge, comparing to specifications. Pry out the old crankshaft seal, apply multi-purpose grease or engine oil to the new seal's outer edge, and drive it into place with a seal driver and hammer, also greasing the seal lip. Place the drive and driven rotors into the pump body with the marks facing out, pack the pump cavity with petroleum jelly, and install the cover, tightening the screws in a criss-cross pattern. Lubricate the oil pressure relief valve with engine oil and install the valve components in the pump body. Clean the gasket surfaces with acetone or lacquer thinner, apply a 2 to 3 mm wide bead of anaerobic sealant to the oil pump, and position a new O-ring on the block. Engage the flats on the oil pump drive rotor with the crankshaft and slide the pump into place, ensuring the new O-ring is installed and aligned. Install the oil pump mounting bolts and tighten them, then use a new gasket to install the oil pick-up tube and tighten the fasteners. Reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order, add oil, start the engine, check for oil leaks, and recheck the engine oil level.
  • Q: How to remove, inspect, and install the oil pump in V6 engine on 1995 through 2004 Toyota Tacoma?
    A:
In removing the oil pan, begin by taking off the timing belt together with the lower timing belt idler pulley and the crankshaft timing sprocket. Subsequently, unbolt the oil pick-up tube and the alternator and unbolt the air conditioning compressor but retain the refrigeration line and then pull the compressor bracket off. Remove the adjusting bar, pry the power steering pump away from the oil pump body, and the remove the lower timing belt idler pulley. Remove the bolts to take the oil pump avay from the engine; use the flat head screw driver in order to pull it out. The O-ring must be taken off and the oil pressure relief valve assembly also removed; the body cover at the rear of the oil pump has large Philips-head screws which when removed, will allow you to lift the cover to reveal the pump rotors. Scrub all parts thoroughly and visually check the internal elements for any possible signs of wear or damage; the oil pressure relief valve and its spring should be replaced if damaged as they are matched. Using a feeler gauge, check end-play of the driven rotor-to-body, rotor side, and rotor tip with reference to the specified numbers. To install, remove the old crankshaft seal and lubricate the new one before fit it into the cover.usually the rattle of a new seal is greased or oiled when purchasing. Insert the drive and driven rotors into the pump body in such a way that the marks are located outside; fill the cavity with petroleum jelly and after that, fix the cover with the screws which should be tightened diagonally. Oil pressure relief valve should be lubricated and other parts related to this valve should be mounted Then gasket surface must be cleaned with acetone or lacquer thinner. Squeeze and apply RTV sealant around the oil pump; make sure the assembly is done in the next five minutes only. Place a new O-ring on the block, lock the oil pump drive rotor to the crank shaft, then locate the pump and snug it into position over the components. Fit the oil pump mounting bolts and tighten the same in a diagonal manner, and use a new gasket to fit the oil pick-up tube and tighten the fasteners. Reinstall all the other parts in reverse, put oil, start the car engine, and inspect the car for loss of oil, or oil leakage, and check the engine oil level again.
