2008 Toyota Highlander Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the rear shock absorber on 2008 Toyota Highlander?
A: The installation process for rear shock absorbers starts with placing the rear lower coil spring insulator onto the rear shock absorber assembly while the recessed part should fit into its matching structure. Place the rear No. 1 spring bumper to the assembly as your next step. Use the Special Service Tools including 09727-30021, 09727-00010, 09727-00021, and 09727-00031 for temporary coil spring compression while installing the spring onto the assembly. Avoid using an impact wrench to protect the tools from damage. Fit the rear suspension support assembly by correctly placing its cutout onto the protrusion then fasten the rear support toward the rear shock absorber collar and to the rear shock absorber nut. Secure the rear coil spring by placing its end inside the insulator depression while setting the stud bolt to face 3.5 degrees outward at minimum and maximum 5 degrees tolerance range. Apply three nuts to the rear shock absorber with coil spring while torquing them to 58 Nm, then finish with two bolts and two nuts reaching a torque value of 290 Nm while maintaining bolt stability during nut installation before final tightening of the rear support to rear shock absorber nut to 55 Nm. Install the rear No. 1 suspension support cover and both 2WD and 4WD need a hexagon wrench to attach the rear stabilizer link assembly with a nut that requires a 39 Nm torque. The rear speed sensor wire gets installed with a bolt for both configurations but the torque remains at 5.0 Nm. The wire must stay untwisted. Fix the rear flexible hose in place with a bolt where the final torque must reach 19 Nm for both equipment types but make sure no twisting takes place. Secure the rear wheel by torquing it to 103 Nm followed by installing the deck side trim with trim cover. Afterward, check and adjust the rear wheel alignment.
