2008 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the front lower ball joint on 2008 Toyota Highlander?
A: A front lower ball joint removal starts by taking off the wheel followed by the front axle hub nut. The front speed sensor requires two procedures: removal of bolt and resin clamp until the sensor separates completely from the front shock absorber with coil spring and subsequent cleaning of the installation hole and surface. Before separating the front drive shaft assembly with the front axle hub sub-assembly use a plastic hammer while ensuring complete unscrewing of the front axle hub nut to protect drive shaft threads. The front disc brake caliper assembly needs its two bolts removed while using wire or equivalent tool to prevent hanging of the flexible hose. To continue fix the car you should disconnect the front disc and unfasten the tie rod portion followed by removing the front lower suspension arm components through its bolt and nut removal. Start by detaching the front axle assembly through the removal of two bolts and two nuts with prevention on bolt rotation. Secure the front axle assembly inside a vise by using aluminum plates but avoid excessively tight clamp-down. Insert Special Service Tool: 09960-20010 into the front lower ball joint of the front axle assembly but verify through a 1 mm (0.04 in.) clearance measurement between those components. Remove the nut and cotter pin before the installation process. To extract the front lower ball joint from the front axle assembly Special Service Tools 09960-20010 09961-02010 must be used according to the instructions in which the tool should be positioned with A and B parallel followed by tightening the indicated part while protecting the front lower ball joint dust cover.
