2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Knock Sensor on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: Before servicing the Knock Sensor the technician needs to evacuate fuel system pressure and unscrew the chain sub-assembly together with No. 1 cool air inlet as well as exhaust pipe stopper bracket (4WD specific) followed by removing No. 2 front exhaust pipe assembly and front exhaust pipe assembly and manifold stay before uninstalling Exhaust manifold sub-assembly RH and disconnecting No. 1 and No. 2 fuel pipe sub-assemblies. The service requires you to remove the intake manifold, water by-pass joint RR, camshaft timing gears and No. 2 chain (for Bank 1) as well as the No. 2 chain tensioner assembly, camshafts (for Bank 1) and the No. 2 camshaft bearing before proceeding to disconnect the cylinder head sub-assembly and cylinder head gasket. The first step involves disconnecting the heater water inlet hose from the water outlet pipe before removing the No. 1 water outlet pipe through plugging off the four wire harness clamps and three bolts. Uninstall the knock sensor after disconnecting its connectors and removing both bolts and sensors. Two knock sensors must be bolted with 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque before connecting their respective knock sensor connectors. The procedure calls for next the installation of the No. 1 water outlet pipe through its 3 bolts with a torque setting at 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7.4 ft.lbf) followed by 4 wire harness clamp insertion. Plug in the heater water inlet tube to the water outlet pipe before checking the cylinder head set bolt and placing the cylinder head gasket and cylinder head sub-assembly. The engine technician should install the No. 2 camshaft bearing along with camshafts (for Bank 1), No. 2 chain tensioner assembly, camshaft timing gears, and No. 2 chain (for Bank 1) followed by water by-pass joint RR and intake manifold. Join the No. 2 and No. 1 fuel pipe sub-assemblies before installing the exhaust manifold sub-assembly RH, manifold stay and front exhaust pipe assembly, No. 2 front exhaust pipe assembly and exhaust pipe stopper bracket (for 4WD) and No. 1 cool air inlet. Check the front wheel alignment and inspect all previous items one more time before including the chain sub-assembly.
