2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: The vehicle inspection starts when you put on the parking brake followed by turning the ignition switch to ON position and stepping on the brake pedal for engine start in N or P positions. Also check if the Back Up light turns on and the reverse warning alarm activates in R position. Begin by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery terminal then remove the connector of the park/neutral position switch before unlocking and removing the assembly which requires a screwdriver to remove the lock washer followed by the removal of the lock nut and bolt. Use a multimeter to measure resistance of the park/neutral position switch when placing the shift lever in every position. Adjustment of the assembly begins by unscrewing the switch bolt and aligning the shift lever at N while installing the switch to the neutral basic line before torquing the bolt to 13 N m (129 kgf cm, 9.4 ft. lbf). Execute another inspection after performing the adjustment steps. Start installation of the park/neutral position switch by mounting it to the manual valve shaft followed by temporary bolt insertion then torque 6.9 N m (70 kgf cm, 61 in. lbf) on the new lock washer and nut. Move the control shaft towards its rear end followed by rotating the control shaft lever two notches until N position then use the neutral basic line to align with the switch groove before bolting with 13 N m (129 kgf cm, 9.4 ft. lbf) while deforming the lock washer tabs. The system requires the following procedure: connect the park/neutral position switch connector and cable the negative battery terminal with 3.9 N m (40 kgf cm, 35 in. lbf) torque. Then initialize the system and verify the shift lever position while inspecting the park/neutral position switch assembly.
