2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the knock sensors and related components on 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: First secure both knock sensors with two bolts that need 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf) torque before connecting their corresponding connectors. The step requires you to install the No. 1 water outlet pipe while tightening the 3 bolts to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7.4 ft-lbf) and connecting the 4 wire harness clamps. The heater water inlet hose should be connected to the water outlet pipe. After applying the cylinder head gasket proceed to install the cylinder head sub-assembly and follow with the No. 2 camshaft bearing then the camshafts for Bank 1. Tentatively position the No. 2 chain tensioner assembly together with camshaft timing gears and No. 2 chain for Bank 1 and follow with water by-pass joint RR and the intake manifold installation. The installer should attach the No. 2 and No. 1 fuel pipe sub-assemblies followed by installation of the exhaust manifold sub-assembly RH, manifold stay, front exhaust pipe assembly and No. 2 front exhaust pipe assembly. 4WD model installations require the exhaust pipe stopper bracket together with the No. 1 cool air inlet. Check the fuel and exhaust gas leak then inspect ignition timing before examining engine idling speed and compression and CO/HC levels while concluding with front wheel alignment check and adjustment.
