2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Engine Control Module Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the Engine Control Module (ECM) while performing necessary resets on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: Initiating reset memory (AT initialization) should be performed during automatic transmission assembly or engine assembly replacement or when replacing the ECM. Registration (VIN registration) becomes necessary specifically for ECM replacement. The setup process for ATF temperature warning lamp must be done after ECM replacement or reset memory execution. Start the procedure by disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable then remove the glove compartment door assembly. To remove the automatic transmission 4WD four wheel drive control ECU users must disconnect both the connector and screw that secure it. Sequel to disconnecting 5 connectors users should uninstall 3 nuts to extract the ECM after which they must separate the ECM bracket with two screws and then unfasten No. 2 ECM bracket by removing its two screws. The installation begins by installing the No. 2 ECM bracket followed by screwing in 2 pieces at 3.0 N.m (32 kgf.cm, 28 in.lbf). Begin by installing the ECM bracket using 2 screws which must be tightened at their recommended torque value of 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf). After that, install the ECM via three nuts at a torque of 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf). Finally, connect the 5 connectors to the ECM. Secure the four wheel drive control ECU with the bolt reaching 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) torque before reattaching the connector. The last step involves reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal while tightening it to 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf).
