2006 Toyota Tacoma Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and install the crankshaft position sensor on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Starting the crankshaft position sensor removal requires disconnecting the car battery negative cable followed by engine under cover sub-assembly No.1 removal for 4WD and Pre-Runner versions. You need to remove the fan along with the generator V belt and the compressor and magnetic clutch must be separated before you take out the idle pulley assembly with bracket by disassembling its 5 bolts. To proceed with the crankshaft position sensor removal, disconnect both the connector and 2 wire harness clamps followed by unbolting the component before removing it from position. To install the crankshaft position sensor use light engine oil on its O-ring then attach it with the bolt and torque it to 8.5 N.m (87 kgf.cm, 75 in.lbf) making sure the O-ring stays free of damage or hindrances. Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector and the 2 wire harness clamps, then reinstall the idle pulley assembly with bracket, uniformly tightening the 5 bolts in the specified sequence to 21 N.m (214 kgf.cm, 16 ft.lbf) for bolt A and 43 N.m (438 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf) for bolts B and C. Proceed to install the compressor and magnetic clutch, followed by the fan and generator V belt, then the engine under cover sub-assembly No.1 for 4WD and Pre-Runner models, and finally connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, torquing it to 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf).
