2006 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the knock sensor on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Service of the knock sensor begins with disconnecting the negative cable terminal then removing the engine under cover sub-assembly for 4WD and Pre-Runner vehicles followed by draining the engine coolant. The service begins by setting aside the intake air connector together with throttle and motor body assembly and by disconnecting both fuel hoses. The following process removes the intake manifold after disconnecting the fuel vapor feed hose from VSV along with vacuum hose as well as the bolt and clamp bracket followed by disconnection of water by-pass hose No. 2 and ventilation hose No. 3 and VSV connector and disengaging engine wire harness clamp and compressor magnetic clutch connector (if equipped with air conditioning) while removing needed bolts and nuts. The knock control sensor becomes available for removal after disconnecting its connector and unhitching the bolt. To install attach the knock control sensor using the bolt while maintaining a proper installation angle then connect its wiring connector. Attach a new gasket on the intake manifold before tightening 5 bolts while installing 2 nuts to connect the engine wire harness to the relay block according to the shown instructions. Then, attach the 3 connectors and the harness clamp bracket with the bolt. The installation process requires engagement of the wire harness clamp followed by magnetic clutch connector and VSV connector connections then attaching ventilation hose No. 3 alongside water by-pass hose No. 2 and installing the clamp bracket with the bolt. Subsequently install the vacuum hose along with the fuel vapor feed hose to the VSV. The fuel hoses need to be connected before installing the throttle with motor body assembly, intake air connector and battery cable with correct torque settings. Post-installation tasks include filling with engine coolant followed by leak checks followed by engine under cover sub-assembly No.1 installation (for 4WD and Pre-Runner).
