How to remove and install the Engine Control Module on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?

Registration of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) should start before installing a new Engine Control Module (ECM). Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Start by removing the glove compartment door assembly and proceeding to take out the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower RH. Release the 4 connectors attached to the ECM followed by unfastening the 2 bolts and nut to extract the ECM. The ECM bracket must be removed by uninstalling its 3 screws then ECM bracket No. 2 requires loose of its 2 screws. Begin installation with ECM bracket No. 2 at 3 N.m (32 kgf.cm, 28 in.lbf) torque and proceed with the installation of ECM bracket at the same torque specification. Screw the ECM at 5 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) while reattaching the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower RH and the glove compartment door assembly. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal before tightening it to 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf).
