2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Knock Sensor on 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The start of Knock Sensor service requires removing fuel system pressure followed by disconnecting the negative battery cable terminal while waiting 90 seconds to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The service begins with draining engine coolant and removing the V-bank cover sub-assembly before disconnecting the fuel return hose, fuel main hose and taking off the intake air connector pipe and intake manifold assembly. Beginning installation requires dropping both the air pump assembly and knock control sensor by first disconnecting the two knock sensor connectors and unthreading the nut while detaching the two knock sensors. You should install the 2 knock sensors by tightening their 2 nuts to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque values before connecting the 2 knock sensor connectors. Set up the sequence of installation with the air pump assembly first along with the intake manifold assembly and reconnect the fuel main and return hoses before attaining the intake air connector pipe and V-bank cover sub-assembly. You must perform system initialization after reconnecting the cable because some control systems need it following the cable connection to the negative battery terminal. Engine coolant must be added to the system before performing leak checks on engine coolant and fuel systems.
