2008 Scion xD Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the TPMS Sensor and transmitter on 2008 Scion xD?
A: You should install the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter by putting it into the valve installation hole through the inside of the rim so its printed surface shows. The inspection process should identify all visible defects on the valve and transmitter which should be free of foreign objects both inside the grommet and around the rim hole. Reverse installation of the valve and transmitter can result in their damage or signal failure while operating at high speeds. Record the ID number before new valve and transmitter installation so that ECU registration becomes possible after installation. Prepare the new washer before installing it on the valve and transmitter rim side then tighten the new nut to a torque of 4.0 Nm (41 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf) and finish the tightening process before torque specification. The installation must be performed interference-free by inspecting the washer and nut for contaminants and replacing the grommet if not damaged and keeping oil water and lubricants away from the rim hole valve washer and nut. Install the lower tire bead onto the wheel disc by placing the main body of the valve and transmitter in the marked area of the mounting machine which protects the tire bead from damage. To place the upper tire bead you need to verify the valve and transmitter remains safe from interference by the tool or tire bead. To finish inflation of the tire tighten the valve nut to its specified torque limits while checking for any air escapes using soapy water. A torque of 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) should be used to install both the front wheel and the rear wheel. Tires need to be inspected while the technician must also record the transmitter ID before proceeding with tire pressure warning system examination.
