2009 Scion xD Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the TPMS Sensor and transmitter on 2009 Scion xD?
A: You should place the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter into the valve installation hole from the inside of the rim while allowing the printed side to face outward. The valve and transmitter should be checked for any visible deformation and damage or abnormalities while making sure there is no foreign matter on the grommet and around the rim hole. Installation of the valve transmitter at an inverted position could result in damage alongside problems with high-speed signal transmission. Before the installation of new valves with transmitters notate the identification numbers since they require ECU registration afterward. Apply a new nut on the rim side of the valve and transmitter and tighten it to 4.0 Nm (41 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf) torque without additional rotation after achieving the set torque value. Prior to installation inspect the washer and the nut for foreign objects then check and replace the grommet even when it appears undamaged. Also clear all lubricating substances from the area surrounding the rim hole, valve, washer and nut to prevent incorrect installation. Mount the wheel disc in the mounting machine while placing the main body of the valve and transmitter in the specified shaded area which protects the tire bead from interference when installing the lower tire bead. During upper bead installation keep the tool and bead away from both valve and transmitter space. The tire needs inflation before tightening the valve nut to 4.0 Nm (41 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf) and retaining air integrity using soapy water. The torque setting of 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) must be used for both the front wheel installation and the rear wheel installation. The tire inspection will require the technician to record transmitter identification data according to specifications. Check the operation of the tire pressure warning system before completing the audit.
