2007 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the knock sensor on 2007 Toyota Yaris?
A: As a first step remove the cable from the negative terminal to drain coolant from the engine while servicing the knock sensor. Start by removing the cylinder head cover No. 2 and proceed to detach both air cleaner cap sub-assembly and air cleaner hose No. 1. The mechanics should disconnect water by-pass hose and water by-pass hose No. 2 in this order before disassembling the throttle with motor body assembly and intake manifold. Safely disconnect the power source from its terminal then drain all engine coolant while also taking off the gasket through removal of 3 bolts and 2 nuts. Thus allowing for removal of the intake manifold by separating engine wire harness, water by-pass hose No. 2, ventilation hose, and union to connector tube hose. The next step requires removal of the knock sensor by disconnecting its connector then unfastening the nut. The installation requires the new knock sensor to receive the nut setting before torquing it to 20 Nm (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft. lbs.) then connecting the knock sensor connector. Fasten the new intake manifold gasket with 3 bolts and 2 nuts at 30 Nm (304 kgf.cm, 22 ft. lbs.) torque then put on the union to connector tube hose followed by water by-pass hose No. 2 and engine wire harness and ventilation hose. Install the throttle assembly within the motor body unit before securing water by-pass hoses and mounting air cleaner cap sub-assembly with Air Cleaner Hose No. 1. To finish up install the cylinder head cover No. 2 after conducting these steps: Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal while torquing it to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 48 in. lbs.) and then add engine coolant as well as inspect (check) the cylinders for coolant leakage.
