2007 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear Sway Bar Kit on 2007 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step involves taking off the rear wheel followed by disassembling the rear sway bar kit assembly on the left-hand side where removal of both nuts and sway bar link is required and if the ball joint turns with the nut apply a 5 mm hexagon wrench for stabilizing the stud until the procedure is completed on the right-hand side. The same process must be carried out on the right-hand side. First remove bracket No.1 from the rear sway bar kit by taking out its two bolts and the bracket followed by removing the sway bar kit with both bushings. To perform inspections on the left-hand side rear sway bar link assembly you must first flip the ball joint stud while rotating it 5 times before using a torque wrench to continuously spin the ball joint for 3 to 5 seconds to obtain a torque reading on the 5th turn as you check if the reading stays below 1.0 Nm (10 kgf-cm, 9 inch lbs.); if not replace the assembly. Examine the sway bar kit while observing unusual noises and look for fluid leaks or cracks on the dust cover surface. You must install the sway bar bush to the outer stopper ring on the sway bar kit before placing the sway bar kit. The installation of rear sway bar bracket No.1 requires the use of two bolts which should be tightened to 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Mount the rear sway bar link assembly on the left-hand side by tightening the 2 nuts to 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.) but only start the nuts if the ball joint stays fixed in position or use a 5 mm hexagon wrench to stabilize the stud. Proceed as before for the right-hand side while installing the rear wheel with a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) before checking rear wheel alignment.
