2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Clock Spring on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: Begin service of the Clock Spring by carefully studying all the warnings pertaining to Restraint Systems. The negative cable's power connection should be disconnected and the system should wait at least 90 seconds to stop Air Bag activation. Start by facing the front wheels directly forward and remove all components including Steer Wheel Cover Lower No.3 and No.2 as well as Steering Pad, Steering Wheel Assembly, Lower Steering Column Cover and Upper Steering Column Cover. You should disconnect the connectors from the clock spring while protecting the Air Bag wire harness and then disengage the four screws to take out the clock spring. The installation process requires straight front wheels and the turn signal switch to remain at the neutral position to prevent pin snaps. Mount the clock spring by screwing and check whether to remove the lock pin prior to new part replacement. Finally connect all applicable connectors. The installation of both Upper and Lower Steering Column Covers requires adjustment of the clock spring to be made after turning off the ignition switch and disconnecting the battery terminal for at least 90 seconds. Rotate the clock spring with counterclockwise force until it becomes firm before performing a clockwise turn of approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks but abstain from rotating it with the Air Bag wire harness or connector. Start by fitting the Steering Wheel Assembly while verifying the steering wheel center position before installing the Steering Pad and the Steering Wheel Cover Lower No.2 and No.3 components. Complete the procedure by connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque force of 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) before checking the Steering Pad and performing system initialization that some systems need after battery disconnect. Finish by checking the SRS warning light.
