How to service the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2006 Scion tC?

A complete Engine Control Module (ECM) service process starts with disconnecting the negative cable from the battery terminal while waiting 90 seconds to stop Air Bags and pretensioners from activating. The ECM removal process starts with opening the glove compartment while performing a wire harness clamp disconnection followed by removing the 5 ECM connectors then proceeding to unfasten the bolt, screw and ECM and finally taking off the 2 screws from the No. 1 ECM bracket and the 2 screws from the No. 2 ECM bracket. Begin the installation by securing the No. 2 ECM bracket using its 2 screws and applying 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf) torque value before proceeding to attach the No. 1 ECM bracket with 2 screws torqued to the same 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf). You should install the ECM by using the bolt and screw before torquing the bolt to 5.0 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) and the screw to 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf) while also reconnecting the 5 ECM connectors and installing the wire harness clamp. The initialization process must be done when specific systems need initialization after the battery cable reconnection to the negative terminal.
