  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2005 Scion tC?
    A: A vehicle technician should start ECM replacement by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. The first step involves removing the glove compartment door assembly before proceeding to disconnect the wire harness clamp and the five ECM connectors to remove the ECM. After detaching the bolt and screw you can remove the ECM. Later detach the 2 screws from ECM bracket No. 1 and the 2 screws from ECM bracket No. 2. Secure ECM bracket No. 2 first through the 2 screws which need 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf) torque before fixing ECM bracket No. 1 using its 2 screws tightened to 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf). The turn prevention part and the ECM should be installed with the bolt secured at 5.0 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) and the screw fastened at 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf). Reposition the 5 ECM connectors before installing the wire harness clamp. The last step is to reinstall the glove compartment door assembly followed by reconnecting the battery negative terminal while torquing it to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf).
