2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a Vapor Canister on 2005 Scion tC?
A: The first step when replacing the charcoal canister assembly requires a negative battery terminal disconnection followed by an initialization of the power window control system and sliding roof system upon reattaching the terminal. Begin by removing the floor panel brace front together with the exhaust pipe assembly center, fuel tank protector No.1 and the rear suspension brace lower RH. You should disconnect the charcoal canister assembly by taking off the leak detection pump connector as well as the fuel emission hose and clamp and the fuel tank vent hose while pinching the retainer and slowly pulling out the fuel tank vent connector and avoiding touching the parts with foreign objects. Apply a clip remover to loosen the clip before you uninstall the two bolts which retain the charcoal canister. Following these steps install the charcoal canister bracket by first holding the bracket claw to the fuel tank hoses then fastening the two bolts to 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf). To install the fuel vent hose users must place the fuel tube connector onto the pipe before pushing it until its seat is contacted then securing the retainer. You can connect the fuel tank vent hose when you slide the connector pipe ends together before the hose clicks into position. After installing the fuel emission hose with its clamp attach the leak detection pump connector. Put back the rear suspension brace lower RH and fuel tank protector No.1 together with exhaust pipe assembly center and floor panel brace front. To finish the procedure connect the battery negative terminal with a torque set to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) then inspect for exhaust gas leakage.
