Every replacement Engine Control Module (ECM) requires you to input the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) using an intelligent tester program. This alphanumeric series consists of 17 digits. Users need to access input with the arrow buttons (UP, DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT) together with the numerical buttons (0 to 9). Operate the cursor on the tester screen through the RIGHT and LEFT buttons to choose between UP and DOWN selection of alphabetic characters while numeric input can be achieved by selecting numerical buttons or utilizing both UP and DOWN buttons. The cursor allows character correction when positioned over that character using the RIGHT or LEFT buttons. The technician should verify that the entered VIN corresponds correctly with the vehicle's VIN then hit the ENTER button. The intelligent tester requires connection to the DLC3 followed by turning the ignition switch ON and powering up the tester to view the VIN which resides in the ECM. The intelligent tester requires users to follow connection and ignition processes before allowing input of the VIN after confirming the entered VIN matches the vehicle.

The registration process includes input instructions, reading the VIN, and writing the VIN.

Reconnect the 5 ECM connectors and install the wire harness clamp.
