2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Engine Control Module on 2007 Scion tC?
A: The first step to remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) involves disconnecting the negative battery cable for at least 90 seconds to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The procedure starts by taking off the glove compartment door before disconnecting the wire harness clamp and separating five ECM connectors and removing the bolt and screw and finally removing the ECM. The first step requires removing two screws from both the No. 1 ECM bracket as well as both screws from the No. 2 ECM bracket. The first step of installation involves attaching the No. 2 ECM bracket through torquing 2 screws to 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf) then securing both the No. 1 ECM bracket to its 2 screws at 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf). You should install the ECM afterwards by tightening the bolt to 5.0 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) while the screw requires 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf). Attach all 5 ECM connectors before putting on the wire harness clamp. Reinstall the glove compartment door while reestablishing glove compartment cable connections before initializing any system, since most systems need initial setup the following battery cable disconnect and reconnection at the terminal.
