The first step to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) for the 2AZ-FE engine control system includes removing the cable from the negative battery terminal while waiting for 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The glove compartment door requires removal as the first step. After disconnecting the wire harness clamp you must separate all 4 ECM connectors before ECM removal can continue. After disconnecting the ECM from its mounting position users should remove the bolt, screw and finally the Engine Control Module itself.
