2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2007 Scion tC?
A: Service of the Camshaft Position Sensor requires you to disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal while waiting 90 seconds to disable Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners. Start by removing the engine cover with air cleaner cap. Then disconnect the sensor connector before removing the bolt and sensor from its position. The installation requires a new O-ring with no broken or obstructed sections. Apply engine oil to the O-ring lightly before inserting the sensor with its bolt which needs torque to 9.0 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf). After installing the sensor connector the air cleaner cap should be put back in place before reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal. Reinstall the engine cover after checking for oil leaks then do the initialization procedure since some system components need it after reconnecting and disconnecting from the negative battery terminal.
