2005 Toyota 4Runner Control Arm Parts Q&A
Q: How to overhaul the Control Arm in the Front Suspension Upper Arm Assembly LH on 2005 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The inspection for ball joint looseness begins after removing the front disc wheel through a manual up-and-down shaking motion of the upper arm assembly LH to check for looseness. You should disconnect the skid control sensor wire by unscrewing the 2 bolts and use a jack to stabilize the front suspension lower arm on the left-hand side. Special Service Tool 09628-62011 should be used while disconnecting the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle. After removing the clip and nut this process can be completed. First disconnect the bolt and bracket and after that remove the bolt along with two washers and nut to extract the front suspension upper arm assembly. To remove the front suspension upper arm bush LH apply a hammer and chisel to elevate the bushing flange diagonally before using Special Service Tool: 09613-26010, 09710-22021 (09710-01031), 09950-00020 and a press to extract the bush from the front side followed by rear side installation according to the same procedure. Begin the inspection by performing 5 mutualamations of the ball joint stud then secure the nut by operating a torque wrench with a 3 - 5 second turn rate until reaching 4.5 Nm (46 kgf-cm, 40 inch lbs.). Verify the ball joint dust cover remains intact during this process. Use Special Service Tool: 09710-26010 (09710-05061) along with a press to install a new front suspension upper arm bush LH (front side) before installing the rear side in the same manner. The front suspension upper arm assembly should be pre-tightened by installing the assembly along with bolt and 2 washers and nut and then adding the bracket with bolt at a torque of 5.8 Nm (59 kgf-cm, 51 inch lbs.). The procedure should finish with installing a new nut and clip at a torque of 110 Nm (1,120 kgf-cm, 81 ft. lbs.). After connecting the skid control sensor wire to its 2 bolts with 13 Nm torque (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) you should install the front disc wheel at 112 Nm (1,140 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). The H-LH front suspension upper arm assembly needs a suspension stabilizing step before users tighten the nut to 115 Nm (1,170 kgf-cm, 85 ft. lbs.) to finish inspecting and adjusting front wheel alignment.
