2005 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear Sway Bar Kit on 2005 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The procedure starts with taking off the wheel and continuing with sway bar link assembly disconnection by removing the nut from the LH side; when the ball joint moves with the nut tighten it using a 6-mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud. After positioning a wrench on the sway bar link you can proceed to eliminate the nut and retainer and cushion and link and then separate the 2 retainers and cushion from the sway bar link. Perform the same procedure also on the RH side. Begin sway bar link assembly inspection by moving the ball joint stud 5 times back and forth before nut installation and apply torque with a wrench at a 2 to 4 second length for each turn taking the final torque reading at 0.05 to 2.0 Nm (0.5 to 20 kgf-cm, 0.4 to 17.7 inch lbs.). The process to remove a sway bar kit rear requires unfastening its 4 sway bar kit bolts alongside the sway bar brackets and bar and extracting the two sway bar bushes from the sway bar kit. The sway bar kit installation begins by placing 2 sway bar bushes onto the sway bar kit yet the sway bar bush should face the inner side of the sway bar bush stopper before securing the 2 sway bar brackets along with the 4 bolts at 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). The next step involves installing the LH sway bar link with its nut secured properly while torquing it to a value of 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.). If the ball joint rotates with the nut in place, you must repeat the procedure by using a hexagon wrench to maintain the stud secure. Use a wrench to hold the sway bar link while installing the nut with the retainer and cushion and link. Final torque should be 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Complete installation by putting on the rear wheel while torquing to 112 Nm (1,137 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.).
