How to Service and Repair the Control Arm on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?

Service or repair of the upper control arm starts with removing the shock absorber with coil spring for all RZN191L-TRPDKAB, RZN196L-CRPDKAB, PZN196L-PRPDKAB, VZN195L-CRPDKAB, and VZN195L-PRPDKAB models. Models with ABS require removing the 2 bolts from the wire harness clamp of the steering knuckle and upper suspension arm after achieving a torque of 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). During ball joint disconnect you should loosen the nut to 105 Nm (1,100 kgf-cm, 80 ft. lbs.) but further increase torque up to 60 degrees when misalignment occurs in the cotter pin hole. The upper ball joint requires disconnect using Special Service Tool 09950-40011 (09951-04010, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04031, 09958-04011) which allows support to the steering knuckle before removing the nut. To remove the upper suspension arm first unscrew the nut, bolt and two washers reaching a torque setting of 115 Nm (1,200 kgf-cm, 87 ft. lbs.) after stabilizing the suspension. The front wheel alignment should be checked once you finish installing the components.
