2001 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear wheel speed sensor on 2001 Toyota Echo?
A: Service and fix the rear speed sensor wheel needs you to first separate the wheel and connect to the speed sensor. After disconnecting the rear wheel's electrical connector you must unfasten the speed sensor before taking out the ABS sensor by slowly pushing out its two pins followed by using Special Service Tool 09520-00031 (09520-00040, 09521-00020) for component removal. Place the axle hub assembly in a soft jaw vise then switch it if it accepts a large impact or drops during work. Use Special Service Tools to remove the ABS speed sensor by inserting 09520-00031, 09520-00040, 09521-00020 into the sensor and tighten 09950-00020 while holding the sensor straight during removal process. Avoid damaging the sensor rotor by keeping foreign material away from it. Replace the axle hub assembly and avoid damaging its contact surface with the speed sensor when you find the sensor rotor is broken. Clean both the axle hub and the sensor before you fit them at the correct position on the hub with connector down. Follow instructions printed on 09214-76011 Special Service Tool while installing the new ABS sensor using a press. To maximize speed sensor life do not strike it with a hammer directly and check for any foreign matter on its detection surface. Replace the rear wheel and tighten it with 103 Nm torque after you attach the speed sensor connector to the hub. End by verifying the speed sensor performance.
