2000 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear wheel speed sensor on 2000 Toyota Echo?
A: Separate the wheel and disconnect the speed sensor connector before you remove both parts. At first remove the speed sensor with its attached hub and afterward take out the ABS speed sensor module by pressed-out its 2 pins using a pin punch. Place the axle hub assembly on soft jaw compression vise before service and repair. Replace the part when it hits a hard surface to prevent damage. Use the specified Special Service Tools 09520-00031 (09520-00040, 09521-00020), 09950-00020, and 2 12mm bolts with 1.5mm pitch to remove the ABS speed sensor and shield it from foreign contaminants during installation and removal. Replace the axle hub assembly along with replacing the sensor rotor to prevent damaging its interfacing surfaces. To set up the new ABS speed sensor you must first sanitize both the axle hub surface and the sensor. Next place the sensor on the hub with its connector facing down. Employ Special Service Tool 09214-76011 as well as a press for installing the ABS speed sensor onto the axle hub. Remember to avoid hammer use on the device while ensuring that the detector area remains clean. Place the speed sensor over the rear axle hub then connect the sensor to its connector. Secure the wheel in place with 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Perform a final test on the speed sensor function.
