- Q: How to service and repair the brake caliper on 2000 Toyota Echo?A: Starting the brake caliper service and repair requires you to first remove the front wheel before securely tying down the disc with hub nuts adjusted to 76 ft. lbs. (1,050 kgf-cm, 103 Nm). When removing the caliper flexible hose it requires removal of the union bolt and gasket followed by torque measurement of 30 Nm (310 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.); use a container to catch fluid draining before secure lockdown of the hose in the caliper's lock hole. Untighten the sliding pin while you slide it, then unscrew and detach both installation bolts that need to be torqued to 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.) The brake caliper can now be removed from the torque plate before extracting the 2 dust boots from the torque plate. Now remove the brake pads after taking off their associated anti-squeal shims and the two pad support plates. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order and end by filling up the brake reservoir with fluid and completing a brake system bleed before checking for any fluid escapes.
