    Q:
How to service and repair the wheel hub on Toyota Celica? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start wheel hub servicing after removing the front wheel while ensuring proper torque of 103 Nm reaches 1,050 kgf-cm or 76 ft. lbs. Bearing backlash and axle hub deviation measurements occur by removing 2 bolts, brake caliper and disc followed by proper support of the brake caliper. Some dial indicator tools should measure hub axle backlash at its midpoint. The measurement should not exceed 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) and requires new bearing installation. The surface measurement of the axle hub away from its bolt needs to be within 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch); surpassing this level requires replacing the axle hub. Securely place the reinstalling combination of disc and two bolts and brake caliper into place with a torque of 107 Nm (1,090 kgf-cm, 79 ft. lbs.). Use the Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 along with a hammer to unstake the lock nut before removing it with brake-applying torque of 216 Nm (2,200 kgf-cm, 159 ft.lbs). Securely support the brake caliper before removing both the disc and caliper unit. Use a 8.0 Nm torque (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) to remove the ABS speed sensor when present on the system. For the shock absorber lower side nuts application use 153 Nm (1,560 kgf-cm, 113 ft. lbs.) torque but maintain the nuts in place. The tie rod end disconnect from the steering knuckle requires removal of the cotter pin and nut which must reach a torque of 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.) throughout its installation procedure; alignment issues between new cotter pin holes will need additional nut tightening but up to 60 degrees. Disconnect the tie rod end through the use of Special Service Tool: 09610-20012. The lower ball joint connection requires its removal through disassembly of 2 nuts and a bolt with 142 Nm (1,450 kgf-cm, 105 ft. lbs.) torque setting. Unbolt the steering knuckle with axle hub from the lower shock absorber side by detaching its 2 bolts and nuts while being mindful of boot and ABS speed sensor rotor safety. The installation process requires following the opposite sequence of removal while a subsequent signal check for the ABS speed sensor and front wheel alignment should be performed.
