Steering Knuckle, Passenger Side

The installation procedure for the steering knuckle requires Special Service Tools 09950-60020 and 09951-00720 which allow you to press the new front axle hub bearing into the steering knuckle. Start the installation with front disc brake dust cover and continue with the front axle hub sub-assembly installation and front axle hub hole snap ring addition. Follow these steps for installation: front ball joint first then front axle assembly and lastly the front suspension arm. The following installation steps include the front disc brake caliper assembly and front disc followed by the tie rod end sub-assembly. The front hub nut must be installed at this time but the disc brake caliper assembly needs to be detached. After disc removal you must inspect both the bearing looseness and the runout of the front axle hub. Reinstall both the front disc alongside the front disc brake caliper assembly. The front speed sensor should be connected first to TMC Made vehicles and then to other vehicle types. You must reinstall the front axle hub nut followed by front wheel installation using a torque of 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). Examining the front wheel alignment coupled with speed sensor signal tests is essential.

The front wheel removal process starts the steered knuckle replacement. The first task involves removing the front axle hub nut on the vehicle equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine or performing the same procedure on the 2ZR-FE engine. The technician should start by disconnecting the front speed sensor which applies to TMC-made vehicles or those not manufactured by TMC. First separate the front disc brake caliper assembly from its position before moving onto the front disc. Start by separating the tie rod end sub-assembly and the front lower suspension arm from each other. First remove the front axle assembly before taking out the front lower ball joint. Begin the procedure by removing the front axle hub hole snap ring and front axle hub sub-assembly then proceed with the front disc brake dust cover. The process of removing the steering knuckle includes installing the front axle hub bearing inner race onto the front axle hub bearing followed by using Special Service Tool: 09527-17011, 09950-60010, and a press to extract the front axle hub bearing from the steering knuckle with optional use of Special Service Tool: 09951-00640 and 09951-07100, 09950-70010.

Steering knuckle removal begins by taking off the front wheel and front axle shaft nut on both 2AZ-FE and 2ZR-FE engines. The front axle shaft nut should be removed on both 2AZ-FE engines and 2ZR-FE engines. You must detach the front speed sensor and the front disc brake caliper assembly. Take the front disc out after performing its removal. The front tie rod end sub-assembly should be separated for 2WD vehicles while 4WD vehicles require identical steps. Start by separating the front lower suspension arm and afterward proceed with the front axle assembly removal. Secondly, remove the front lower ball joint while you proceed to take out the front axle hub hole snap ring and front axle hub sub-assembly. The disc brake dust cover must be taken off before concluding with steering knuckle removal. The front axle hub bearing removal process requires the front axle hub bearing inner race (outside) to be placed against the front axle hub bearing when using the combination of Special Service Tool: 09527-17011, 09950-60010, and a press to extract the front axle hub bearing from the steering knuckle with assistance from Special Service Tool: 09951-00640 and 09951-07100, 09950-70010 when necessary.

Proceed to install the front lower ball joint and the front axle assembly, then connect the front lower suspension arm.
