Owners today are preserving that legacy by maintaining a good Steering Column to transmit steering force, mounting switches, dissipating energy in a crash, and in a comfortable tilt and telescoping way. In order to install a new Steering Column, it is vital to first park Scion on a flat surface, remove the battery, and wait some minutes to make airbags discharge. Next pop the Steering Column into the dash opening, get the middle shaft of the column into the steering gear, push the splines into place, and clasp the pinch joint. Mount the upper bracket on the dash support, fit the lower mount and reconnect the clockspring, wiring and the multifunction switches. Install the tilt or telescope lever, tighten all fittings to requirements, check smooth rotation of wheels and ensure they are centered, reattach the battery, calibrate the steering angle and lastly take the Scion on a brief test run to ensure reliable handling.
