2009 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you install the rear Suspension Strut Rod assembly for 2WD and 4WD vehicles on 2009 Toyota Highlander?
A: At the time of 2WD rear strut rod assembly installation you should place the identification mark on the inner vehicle side and then install the assembly using two bolts and two nuts but only tighten them enough because the stopper nuts require this. For 4WD, follow the same procedure. Both 2WD and 4WD suspension systems require suspension stabilization before continuing. The final torque for the rear strut rod assembly of 2WD must reach 80 Nm (815 kgf-cm, 59 ft-lbf) during the tightening process where the vehicle maintains standard height conditions. Perform final torque tightening on the 4WD bolts exactly as for 2WD by delivering torque under standard vehicle height conditions. Proceed with the installation of the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly by adding a bolt followed by a nut then torquing the bolt to 39 Nm (397 kgf-cm, 29 ft-lbf) and the nut to 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 in-lbf) while avoiding cable twist during the procedure. You should now install the rear wheel before torquing it to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf).
