  • Q: How to install the park/neutral safety switch assembly for the U760E automatic transaxle on 2009 Toyota Highlander?
    A: Slot the protrusions of the park/neutral switch onto the control shaft and fasten it by tightening 2 bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). Clean the control shaft before installation of the switch part and place the switch directly to maintain the spring's proper shape. Verify that the switch protrusions remain straight during installation. Secure the control shaft lever to the control shaft as you affix the nut & washer then tighten it to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) torque. Also link the park/neutral position switch connector and clamp. Fasten the transmission control cable assembly to the control shaft lever while keeping the park/neutral position switch and shift lever in neutral position and torquing the nut to 9 ft-lbf (12 Nm or 122 kgf-cm). Install a new clip to the transmission control cable bracket, ensuring claw A fits securely into the bracket holes and the cable is properly installed inside claw B. Proceed to install the air cleaner case sub-assembly, air cleaner filter element sub-assembly, air cleaner cap sub-assembly, No. 2 inlet air cleaner, No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly, outer cowl top panel sub-assembly, ejector tube, windshield wiper motor and link assembly, cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly, front wiper arm and blade assembly RH, front wiper arm and blade assembly LH, and cool air intake duct seal. Complete the connection to the negative battery terminal before observing park/neutral switch and gear lever setup to resolve potential issues.
