  • Q: How to install the park/neutral safety switch assembly for the U151E AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE on 2008 Toyota Highlander?
    A: Installation of the U151E AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE park/neutral position switch assembly requires first mounting the switch to the manual valve shaft and installing the 2 bolts temporarily. Use a new lock plate before tightening the nut to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 in-lbf). Before taking off the control shaft lever, turn it to maximum counterclockwise position then advance it 2 notches in the clockwise direction before removal. Set the switch into position with the neutral basic line alignment while supporting it firmly. Proceed to tighten the 2 bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). Position a screwdriver on the lock plate tabs before bending them and following by installing the control shaft lever washer and tightening the attached nut to a torque value of 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). Connect the park/neutral position switch terminal. The transmission control cable assembly connection requires mounting the control cable to the control shaft lever while securing the nut to 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) torque before the cable should be fixed to the bracket with its new clip. An adjustment should be performed on both the park/neutral position switch assembly and shift lever position before checking their operational state. The installation sequence begins with the air cleaner bracket followed by air cleaner case sub-assembly and then air cleaner filter element sub-assembly before continuing with air cleaner cap sub-assembly and including the No. 1 air cleaner inlet and No. 2 air cleaner inlet. Afterward, install the cool air intake duct seal and the battery. Conduct the cable wiring to the negative battery terminal yet know that particular systems might need system initialization before rewiring the cable.
