Neutral Safety Switch

The U660E AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE Neutral Safety Switch can be removed by starting with the battery cable disconnection at the negative terminal point. Begin by taking off the air intake duct seal then continue with the sequence of removing the No. 2 air cleaner inlet before moving on to the air cleaner cap with the air cleaner hose followed by the air cleaner case then finish with the removal of the No. 1 air cleaner inlet. The removal process starts by disassembling the transmission control cable assembly after unclipping its bracket and unfastening the nut and washer while removing control shaft lever and cable assembly from control shaft. The connector leading to the park/neutral position switch must be detached before removing the two bolts that keep the park/neutral position switch connected to the control shaft. Every step of switch removal starts with a thorough cleaning of the control shaft installation area followed by a direct pull that avoids distorting the plate spring supporting the shaft because it impairs the park/neutral position switch's correct installation.

The first step for U250E AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH servicing includes disconnecting the negative battery cable then removing the battery from the vehicle. To begin the transmission control cable assembly separation remove the nut from the control shaft lever and disconnect the assembly from the lever before removing the clip to disconnect it from the No. 1 control cable bracket without touching the resin guide pipe. The removal process begins with disconnecting the switch connector before removing the nut and washer together with the control shaft lever. Next use a screwdriver to pry up the lock plate before detaching the lock plate and lock nut. The final step is to remove both bolts which will enable the park/neutral position switch to be extracted from its place.

The first step to remove the Neutral Safety Switch from the U250E AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE requires one to disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal. Next, remove the battery. The transmission control cable assembly needs first separating through nut removal from the control shaft lever followed by detachment from the control shaft lever and clip removal to separate it from the No. 1 control cable bracket keeping away from the resin guide pipe. The process to detach the Neutral Safety Switch from the U760F AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION / TRANSAXLE begins with COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL removal followed by INLET AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY then AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY followed by AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY then AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY. Start by detaching the AIR CLEANER BRACKET through wire harness clamp separation and by removing the two bolts. Removed first the transmission control cable bracket clip then dismounted both the control shaft lever and nut and transmission control cable from the control shaft lever. Unplug the connection from the park/neutral position switch after which remove the nut alongside washer and control shaft lever from the control shaft. End the process by taking out the two bolts that fasten the park/neutral position switch to the control shaft. The installation section of the control shaft requires cleaning from any rust or dirt before switch removal. Move the switch directly along the shaft to stop plate spring deformation which will lead to installation problems with the park/neutral position switch.

Clean off any dirt or rust on the installation portion of the control shaft.

Finally, inspect and adjust the shift lever position and inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly as needed.

Clean any dirt or rust from the control shaft's installation area and ensure the switch is installed straight to avoid deforming the plate spring.

Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the bracket with a new clip and to the control shaft lever with the nut, tightening it to 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Finally, reinstall the battery, connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.), inspect the shift lever position, adjust it if necessary, and inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly.

Separate the transmission control cable assembly by removing the nut from the control shaft lever, then using a screwdriver to disengage the 2 claws and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly with the clip from the control cable bracket; it is advisable to tape the screwdriver tip before use.

Place a new lock plate and tighten the nut to a torque of 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 in-lbf).

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, noting that some systems may require initialization after reconnection.

Move the shift lever to N and align the protrusions of the park/neutral position switch.
