2009 Scion xD Radiator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the radiator on 2009 Scion xD?
A: The radiator installation begins with attaching the radiator drain cock to the radiator assembly. The 2 radiator reserve tank hose grommets and 2 radiator support cushions need installation onto the radiator assembly before proceeding. Start by connecting the 2 claws to install the fan shroud before mounting the water filler sub-assembly with the clip and 2 bolts which need a torque setting to 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf) followed by radiator reservoir tank hose attachment to the water filler sub-assembly. After installing the radiator assembly on the vehicle keep away from applying strong forces to the cooler condenser assembly or piping. Connect the cooling fan motor connector while installing the wire harness clamp. Use 5 bolts to install and torque the upper part of radiator support sub-assembly to 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 in-lbf) while also connecting the horn assembly connector. The installation process starts with fastening the No. 1 cooler cover through 2 clips followed by securing the hood lock assembly with 3 bolts that require torquing to 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf). Complete the operation by installing the hood lock control cable assembly with 2 clamps. Proceed by attaching the No. 2 radiator hose through its clip then for the outlet No. 1 oil cooler hose and inlet No. 2 oil cooler hose followed by connecting the No. 1 radiator hose. Raise the air cleaner assembly and the radiator support upper absorber together with the front bumper cover into position. Set the hood lock position properly to admit the striker without resistance before securing each bolt at 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf). Engine coolant leaks should be inspected before completing the inspection.
