2009 Scion xD Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the radiator on 2009 Scion xD?
A: Turning off ignition power will prevent electric cooling fan operation when removing the radiator. The first step should be to drain engine coolant while removing the engine under cover on both left and right sides. The front bumper cover needs to be removed before proceeding to take out the upper radiator support absorber. Start by taking out the air cleaner assembly before disconnecting the No. 1 radiator hose through clip removal. The repair procedure requires technicians to separate hot oil lines from their connections to both the inlet No. 2 oil cooler hose and outlet No. 1 oil cooler hose. Use pliers to open the clip which leads to radiant hose disconnect. Detach the hood lock assembly following steps to extract the hood lock control cable assembly from its clamps together with the removal of the three bolt screws. Separate the No. 1 cooler cover by removing its two clips. To disassemble the upper radiator support sub-assembly first disconnect the horn connector then remove the five bolts and remove it altogether. The radiator removal process begins by disconnecting the cooling fan motor connector and separating the wire harness clamp followed by disengaging two claws to extract the radiator assembly unless one applies excessive force near the cooler condenser assembly or piping. You should disconnect the water filler sub-assembly hose from the radiator reservoir tank while removing two bolts then freeing up the clip to extract the water filler sub-assembly. Remove the fan shroud by disengaging its two claws after which extract the two radiator support cushions installed on the radiator assembly. Next, the installer should remove both radiator reserve tank hose grommets while finishing the task with radiator drain cock extraction from the radiator assembly.
