2008 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the oxygen sensor in a hybrid system on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step in oxygen sensor servicing involves taking safety measures because of high voltage hybrid system circuits that pose electrical shock hazards during mishandling operations. Serive the oxygen sensor by first taking off the radiator support opening cover and engine under covers from both sides and draining the inverter coolant. Start the oxygen sensor service process by uninstalling the rear No. 2 floor board and both the rear deck floor box and rear No. 3 floor board. Disconnect the negative terminal cable and let it sit for at least 90 seconds to disable Air Bags and seat belts pretensioners from deploying. Disassemble the service plug grip together with front wiper arm cover and both front wiper arms before moving on to the hood to cowl top seal and cowl top ventilator louvers from both sides. Proceed by removing the windshield wiper motor with link assembly after which you should remove the front cowl top panel outer. Check that the inverter with converter voltage reading is 0 V after removing its cover. Also cut connections between No. 2, No. 1, and No. 6 inverter cooling hoses together with disconnecting the No. 1 circuit breaker sensor and frame wire. The converter with inverter assembly must be removed along with Bank 1 Sensor 1 air fuel ratio sensor by starting with the wire harness clamp removal before disconnecting the sensor connector and employing Special Service Tool: 09224-00010 to remove the sensor.
