2008 Toyota Prius Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the Knock Sensor on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The procedure to extract a Knock Sensor from the 1NZ-FXE engine control system requires users to disconnect the negative battery cable along with 90 seconds of waiting time to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The first step requires removing the radiator support opening cover as well as the engine under cover LH followed by draining the engine coolant. The process begins with extracting the air cleaner assembly before unfastening the dipstick guide by removing the dipstick together with wire harness clamp removal and bolt and guide removal. The technician must disconnect seven parts from the intake manifold sub-assembly starting with the ventilation hose from the throttle with motor body followed by the No. 2 ventilation hose then the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose before moving to the water by-pass hose and the No. 2 water by-pass hose and both throttle control motor connector and throttle position sensor connector while also removing three wire harness clamps. You should first disconnect the connector clamp before removing the bolt and harness clamp bracket then removing the No.1 fuel vapor feed hose from the hose clamp. The removal procedure includes taking out the intake manifold by removing its three bolts together with two nuts. Then extract the gasket that is located on the cylinder head. Terminating the process requires knocking off the sensor and its nut followed by cable connector separation.
