2008 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The 1NZ-FXE engine control system requires installation of the Engine Control Module (ECM) with a two-screw alignment of the No. 3 ECM bracket and a four-screw attachment of the 2 No. 2 ECM brackets along with the three-screw fastening of the 3 No. 1 ECM brackets. The installation of the ECM begins with applying 2 nuts that require 3.0 Nm (31 kgf-cm, 27 in-lbf) torque for attachment before the ECM joins with the bracket using 2 nuts and a bolt at the same torque value. Provide a connection between all four hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors along with the four ECM connectors. The initial step involves mounting the No. 3 heater to the register duct before proceeding to install the instrument panel sub-assembly by putting in the instrument panel. Before completing the process connect the cable to the negative battery terminal and perform initialization since some systems require the step following negative battery terminal disconnection.
