2008 Toyota Prius Engine Control Module Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step to extract the ECM for 1NZ-FXE engine control system begins by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal and requiring a minimum 90-second delay before continuing to avoid activating Air Bags and seat belt pretensioners. Begin the process by removing the sub-assembly of instrument panel through instrument panel removal. Next remove the No. 3 heater to register duct and then extract the ECM itself from the system space. Disconnection of four different connectors allows access to both the ECM connectors and hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors. The first step includes removing the 2 nuts and bolt maintaining the ECM with its bracket followed by unfastening the 2 nuts on the ECM. The installation process ends after removing the 6 screws jointly with 3 No. 1 ECM brackets and the 4 screws paired with 2 No. 2 ECM brackets and finally collecting the 2 screws from the No. 3 ECM bracket.
