2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Knock Sensor on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step to service the Knock Sensor requires disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable then waiting 90 seconds to avoid activating Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners. Start the Knock Sensor service by taking off the radiator support opening cover and engine under cover LH then drain the engine coolant. Begin Knock Sensor service by removed the air cleaner assembly together with its oil dipstick guide. This process includes draining the dipstick then disconnecting the wire harness clamp along with removing the dipstick guide and its bolt. Disassemble the intake manifold sub-assembly through the disconnecting steps of ventilation hoses and fuel vapor feed hoses, water by-pass hoses, throttle control motor connector, throttle position sensor connector, wire harness clamps, and connector clamp to remove the bolts, nuts, gasket and cylinder head. The knock sensor installation process requires disconnecting its connector followed by unfastening both bolt and nut to complete the sensor removal. Begin the knock sensor installation by placing the sensor with its nut in place while maintaining correct orientation before tightening the nut to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). After that connect the knock sensor connector. A new gasket must be fitted to the cylinder head and intake manifold while tightening all 3 bolts and 2 nuts to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). The installation process begins with reattaching the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose while tightening the harness clamp bracket bolt to 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf) and completing it with the connector clamp before securing all 3 wire harness clamps and throttle position sensor and throttle control motor connectors and installing both water bypass hoses. Thread the ventilation hoses into place while using a slightly oiled new O-ring which should be installed into the dipstick guide before tightening a bolt to 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf). Verify that the O-ring remains intact and free of damage. Reconnect the wire harness clamp before installing the dipstick along with the air cleaner assembly and reattach the cable to the negative battery terminal. The procedure includes adding engine coolant and leak inspection followed by installation of both the engine under cover LH and the radiator support opening cover before conducting an initialization step since reconnecting the negative battery terminal requires it for certain systems to function correctly.
