2009 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the Knock Sensor on 2009 Toyota Prius?
A: One must disconnect the negative battery cable while waiting 90 seconds before removing the Knock Sensor from the 1NZ-FXE engine control system for safety reasons. As the first step clear away the radiator support opening cover and the engine under cover LH before draining out engine coolant. Start by removing the oil dipstick guide after detaching the oil dipstick then unfastening the wire harness clamp followed by the bolt and dipstick guide's removal. The next procedure involves detaching enzyme ventilation hoses and a No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose and water by-pass hoses from the intake manifold sub-assembly. The work then progresses by separating the throttle control motor connector and the throttle position sensor connector and wire harness clamps before extracting the bolt and harness clamp bracket together with the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose from the hose clamp and then finishing with the removal of 3 bolts along with 2 nuts and the gasket from the cylinder head. The knock sensor requires removal by disconnecting its connector and removing the nut and sensor itself.
