2009 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Oxygen Sensor in a hybrid system on 2009 Toyota Prius?
A: Prior to servicing the Oxygen Sensor users must take caution regarding the hybrid system's high voltage circuits because mishandling them might result in electric shock or leakage. Start by removing the radiator support opening cover along with engine under covers from both LH and RH sides before draining coolant from the inverter. Service of the Oxygen Sensor begins with removing three components: the rear No. 2 floor board, rear deck floor box and rear No. 3 floor board. Unplug the negative terminal battery cable while waiting for a minimum 90-second period to avoid activating seat belt pretensioners and Air Bag devices. Service technicians must remove the service plug grip while also removing front wiper arm cover and wiper arms (LH and RH), hood to cowl top seal, cowl top ventilator louvers (LH and RH) as well as the windshield wiper motor and link assembly. Proceed by removing the front cowl top panel outer and inverter cover before checking that the inverter with converter shows zero voltage. Additionally, disconnect the No. 2, No. 1 and No. 6 inverter cooling hoses along with the No. 1 circuit breaker sensor and frame wire. To remove both components the operator must first loosen a clamp on the wire harness followed by sensor connector disconnection before using Service Tool 09224-00010 on the sensor.
