2008 Scion xB Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove the front shock absorber on 2008 Scion xB?
A: The procedure to remove front shock absorbers starts with removing the windshield wiper arm cover then proceeding to remove windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies from both the left-hand and right-hand sides. Remove the hood to cowl top seal first and afterward detach the cowl top ventilator louver from both sides. The windshield wiper motor along with its link must be removed next before taking out the cowl top panel outer. The front wheel along with the front suspension support dust cover need removal. Unfasten the stabilizer link assembly front section by losing the nut while using a hexagon wrench (6 mm) since the ball joint makes a circular motion when turning the nut. Use the specified tool to detach the front speed sensor from the front shock absorber with coil spring by removing its bolt and clamp. The front flexible hose must be separated by removing its single bolt. The procedure to replace a front shock absorber with coil spring requires loosening the front support to shock absorber nut while maintaining it in place followed by front axle support with a jack and wooden blocks. Detach the front shock absorber with coil spring by removing 2 bolts and 2 nuts which separate it from the steering knuckle and then removing 3 nuts from the front shock absorber with coil spring as long as the front speed sensor remains completely detached. Installation of front coil spring compression requires Special Service Tools: 09727-30021, 09727-00010, 09727-00021, and 09727-00031; two tools work best for angled spring compression when used together. Use a vise to secure the front shock absorber with coil spring while installing its bolt and nut to the shock absorber lower bracket. Before removing the front support to front shock absorber nut, fully compress the front coil spring. Finish by extracting the front suspension support sub-assembly and its accompanying hardware which includes front suspension support dust seal and front coil spring upper seat as well as front coil spring upper insulator followed by front coil spring and front spring bumper and front coil spring lower insulator.
