2008 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the steering knuckle on 2008 Scion xB?
A: The installation of the steering knuckle begins with attaching the front disc brake dust cover and then installing the axle hub through its 4 bolts and finalizing with a 96 Nm (979 kgf-cm, 71 ft-lbf) torque. The storage of hub and bearing components with magnet rotors must happen with an upwards position to protect them from contact with foreign objects. The installation process requires front lower ball joint assembly first along with front axle assembly and front lower No. 1 suspension arm sub-assembly. Install the front disc element after placing the front disc brake caliper assembly then fix the assembly with tie rod end sub-assembly before installing the front axle hub nut. Shortly after you should disassemble the front disc brake caliper but also detach the front disc. The inspection of the front axle hub bearing for loose behavior must be done while testing the front axle hub for its level of run-out. First install the front speed sensor after you install both the front disc brake caliper assembly and the front disc. The installer needs to apply 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) of torque to secure the front wheel and complete front wheel alignment inspection and adjust the front wheel. Then, they must check the VSC sensor signal.
