2009 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the rear shock absorber on 2009 Scion xB?
A: You must start installing the rear shock absorber by placing the rear No. 1 spring bumper onto it. Maintain support of the rear axle beam assembly spring seat by placing it on a jack and wooden block while keeping the assembly from rising too high. Use a bolt and nut to temporarily attach the rear shock absorber assembly to the rear axle beam assembly and reduce the jack height until the upper part of the rear shock absorber reaches the installation hole while keeping the same level of compression between 20 and 30 mm (0.78 to 1.18 in.). Place the rear suspension support correctly into position according to the illustration. Use a socket hexagon wrench (6 mm) to install the rear shock absorber assembly at the right direction after fitting the retainer in position correctly. Tighten the lock nut to 25 Nm (255 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf) when proceeding. Fasten the rear wheels using a torque of 103 Nm which equals 1050 kgf-cm or 76 ft-lbf. Bounce the vehicle while lowering it several times to stabilize rear suspension before tightening the lower shock absorber bolt completely to 90 Nm (918 kgf-cm, 67 ft-lbf). Note that the stopper nut requires bolt tightening. Position and install the rear floor service hole cover as the last step.
