2009 Scion xB Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove the front shock absorber on 2009 Scion xB?
A: The process of taking out the front shock absorber begins with removing the windshield wiper arm cover then proceeding to eliminate the windshield wiper arm and blade assembly from both LH and RH sides. The next step involves removing the hood to cowl top seal while simultaneously stripping away both sides of the cowl top ventilator louver. The windshield wiper motor and link must be detached followed by the cowl top panel outer removal. As the next step detach the front wheel together with the front suspension support dust cover. You must disconnect the front stabilizer link assembly through removing its nut which requires a hexagon wrench of size 6 mm when the ball joint rotates with the nut. Take the bolt and clamp off to remove and disconnect the front speed sensor from its position on the front shock absorber with coil spring. The front flexible hose can be separated by removing a single bolt. Detach the front support to shock absorber nut yet keep it attached while placing the front axle on wooden blocks with a jack support. According to the instructions, the front shock absorber with coil spring should be detached from the steering knuckle by removing first the two bolts and two nuts then the three nuts until the front speed sensor achieves complete separation. To compress the front coil spring use Special Service Tools: 09727-30021, 09727-00010, 09727-00021, and 09727-00031 while using two tools will help when handling at an angle. Secure the front shock absorber with coil spring inside a vise using the bolt and nut to the shock absorber lower bracket while maintaining full compression of the front coil spring before disassembling the front support to front shock absorber nut without using an impact wrench to prevent damage to the tool. The service process requires removal of the front suspension support sub-assembly in addition to front suspension support dust seal together with front coil spring upper seat and front coil spring upper insulator and front coil spring along with front spring bumper. The service also includes removing the front coil spring lower insulator.
