2008 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the Center Air Bag Sensor Assembly and related components on 2008 Scion xB?
A: Never start the installation until the ignition switch shows OFF and the negative battery terminal is completely disconnected. Doing so protects against Air Bag deployment from minor sensor impacts that could occur during the process. The installer should observe a minimum 90-second delay before starting work after disconnection of the negative battery terminal. Mount the Air Bag sensor using 3 bolts and apply a torque of 18 Nm (178 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf) but check that the sensor has no impact damage or improper drop during installation. Examine how the carpet affects the installation plane while performing a loosely check on the front Air Bag sensor with gentle movement and secure the connector holder by locking the lever into place. Make sure the drip-proof sheet is fully intact while also free from any contact with the connectors. Follow by installing the Automatic Transaxle Shift Lever Assembly then attach the Transmission Control Cable Assembly before checking and adjusting the Shift Lever Position and doing the same for the Manual Transaxle. Next follow the order to set up the Instrument Panel Finish Lower Panel in addition to Front No. 1 and No. 2 Console Box Inserts and the Instrument Cluster Finish Center Lower Panel. The technician must attach the Manual Transaxle Shift Lever Knob Sub-Assembly before tightening the cable torque at the negative battery terminal to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) while checking the SRS warning light status.
