2008 Scion xB Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2008 Scion xB?
A: The first step to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor in a 2AZ-FE control system is draining engine coolant. The procedure starts with air cleaner assembly removal which includes disconnecting all connectors from mass air flow meter and separate wire harness before disconnecting No. 1 vacuum switching valve and ventilation hose and No. 2 fuel vapor feed hose. The procedure to access the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor involves loosening the No. 1 air cleaner hose clamp and unlocking the air cleaner assembly clamp then removing the components that include the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with the No. 1 air cleaner hose. After disconnecting the wire harness users need to take out the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly and remove three bolts to remove the air cleaner case sub-assembly. Lastly disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector and install Special Service Tool: 09817-33190 to eliminate the engine coolant temperature sensor together with its gasket.
