Disconnection of the negative battery cable should start the power steering rack and pinion removal process followed by ninety-second waiting before proceeding to prevent Air Bag deployment. First position front wheels directly forward before removing both the steering wheel pad and the steering wheel. The right-hand and left-hand tie rod ends should be disconnected as the first step after which technicians should remove the No. 2 intermediate shaft assembly and clamp plate by eliminating its bolt. Disconnect the pressure feed and return tubes through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-12701. The PS rack and pinion assembly must be removed by first removing the bolt together with nut and stud bolt from the bracket before removing the set bolts and the nut and washer along with the PS rack and pinion assembly until the bracket and grommet can be properly extracted.
